The magistrate relieved Vawda over lack of evidence after hearing arguments from both sides. The PTI leader was booked in a case after he allegedly blocked a carriageway on Sharae Faisal during a demonstration on September 7. According to the prosecution, long queues of vehicles were observed on the city’s main artery for hours, after which the police sprang into action to clear the road by dispersing the demonstrators.
One of the defence lawyers, Khalid, said that he argued before the magistrate that the case was cooked up against his client and the prosecution failed to bring on record any evidence against him.
The court concluded the matter by dropping the case and observed that he be deemed innocent, said the lawyer.
The case was registered under Section 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Airport police station. Vawda remained on bail throughout the case span and spent only a few hours in police custody the night of the action.
