Always watching: Murad to keep an eye on the city with CCTV cameras

Karachi to be monitored at CM House's command centre

KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said the whole of Karachi will be monitored using CCTV cameras under the safe city project.

He made this promise while visiting the command and control centre established at Chief Minister (CM) House last year. According to him, presently around 2,000 CCTV cameras have been installed in the city but Karachi needs at least 6,000 cameras with the highest resolution possible.

Shah said the police department is using outdoor broadcasting vans, which are equipped with monitoring cameras and recording systems for security purposes. The chief minister was told that 9,000 Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and police department cameras have been connected to the command and control centre. Those at the centre can record videos and issue instructions through a wireless communication system.



The CM monitored on Tuesday the movement of the mourning processions proceeding on different routes in the city and also spoke to Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja about the security arrangements for the processions.

He said that Muharram 10 is a very important day and must be guarded properly. "I am available and will be with my people on the routes so keep me informed," he said. "The police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies have done an excellent job by providing good security, I am proud of you," he added.

Earlier, the chief minister spoke to chief secretary Muhammad Siddique Memon and IG Khawaja and asked to be updated about the security arrangements made all over the province.

He urged them to be in close contact with commissioners and DIGs in order to receive information and issue necessary instructions.
