Results announced: Nearly 61 per cent pass intermediate examinations

Minster gives away prizes to position holders

LAHORE: Intermediate and secondary education boards across the province announced the results of intermediate annual examinations on Saturday.

Lahore

Of the 149,272 candidates registered with the Lahore education board, 90,827 were declared successful. The pass ratio was 60.87 per cent.

The result was announced at a ceremony held in honour of the position holders at Aiwan-i-Iqbal Complex. School Education Minister Rana Mashhood was the chief guest. BISE Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail, Secretary Rehana Ilyas, Controller Nasir Jamil and Higher Education Department (HED) Deputy Secretary Irtaza Naqvi were also present. “No nation can progress without education. The government is providing all available resources to equip the youth with education,” the minister said on the occasion. He said 400 per cent more funds for education had been allocated in the 2016 budget compared to 2007-08. He said 70,000 teachers were being recruited and 36,000 classrooms being constructed across the province.

He said the Punjab Education Endowment Fund, too, had been enhanced substantially. He said distribution of laptops and solar lamps among students, the practice of arranging guard of honour for them and arranging study tours of foreign universities were some of the steps aimed at the promotion of education.

He said that under the Chief Minister’s Chinese Language Scholarship Programme, students were being sent to Beijing to learn the language of that country.

The minister gave away laptops, certificates, medals and cash prizes among top students. Their teachers, too, were awarded gold medals.

Multan

In Multan, the top three positions in the pre-medical group were clinched by girls. Aqsa from the Punjab College for Girls, Burewala, stood first with 1,046 marks, Ayesha Muqaddas from the Pak Higher Secondary School for Girls, Khanewal, stood second with 1,041 marks and Faiza Saba from the Rise College of Science, Multan, bagged the third position with 1,036 marks out of 1,100.

Waqas Rauf, who secured first position in the general science group with 1,013 marks, had died of brain hemorrhage, in Vehari on July 11. His father Haji Niaz received the prize on his behalf. Niaz said his son had made the family proud “but we can no longer celebrate”.

Bahawalpur

Hussain Ahmad Madni from the Alpine College of Science, Khanpur, secured 1,050 marks to stand first in Bahawalpur division. Iqra Degree College Johar Colony Sadiqabad’s Muhammad Talha Maqsood secured second position with 1,045 marks Superior College Model Town A Bahawalpur’s Hafiz Muhammad Ajmal Saleem stood third. Of the 42,662 candidates who sat the examinations, 24,664 were declared pass. The pass ratio was 57.81 per cent.

Dera Ghazi Khan

Of the 35,257 candidates who sat the examination in Dera Ghazi Khan, 23,212 were declared successful. The pass ratio was 66 per cent. Muhammad Mubeen Javed from the Government College Kot Addu scored 1,038 marks to grab the overall first position.

Faisalabad

Umar Maqbool from the Punjab College of Science and Commerce, Toba Tek Singh, grabbed the first position in Faisalabad with 1,044 marks.

Sargodha

Of the 36,850 candidates who sat the examination in Sargodha, 23,898 succeeded. The pass ratio was 65 per cent. Noreen Ayesha scored 1,039 marks to claim first position, Hansa Malik obtained 1,038 to stand second and Maryam Iqbal bagged 1,037 to stand third.
