One dead, 10 injured in road accident

Police said the passenger van was travelling to Taunsa from Dera Ghazi Khan

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A traffic police constable died on Monday and 10 passengers in a van were badly injured after the vehicle careened off the Indus Highway and into a ditch.

Police said the passenger van was travelling to Taunsa from Dera Ghazi Khan. The van driver had swerved around a motorcycle rickshaw in order to prevent an accident. He lost control of the van and drove it into a ditch. Eleven people were injured. Rescue-1122 was called. They took the injured passengers to the Dera Ghazi Khan Teaching Hospital’s trauma centre. Doctors there said that three of the injured were in critical condition. Later, Traffic Police Constable Asmatullah succumbed to his injuries. The rest of the injured were identified as Mrs Sajjad, 36, Mrs Asif, 38, Muhammad Sharif, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Asif and two children.
