LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Wednesday gave the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Petroleum final chance to submit their replies to a petition challenging additional tax on petroleum products.

Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh passed the order on the petition moved by Judicial Activism Panel. On a previous hearing, the judge had sought their replies but the authorities concerned failed to provide any. The judge had then directed the OGRA and the ministry to submit their replies at the next hearing.  The JAP said the additional tax on POL products was illegal. “POL prices were falling in international markets but Pakistan’s authorities had been charging additional taxes.” The petition said the government now was charging 17 per cent additional tax on petroleum products.
