In demand: TEVTA to train 16,000 for guard jobs

LAHORE: “The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) will train 16,000 unemployed youth as security guards in a year. The free training programme will be launched next month in 15 districts across the province,” TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said on Friday.

He was addressing a meeting at the TEVTA secretariat.

Sheikh said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had directed the TEVTA and the Home Department to provide trained personnel to security agencies.

“After various meetings with the Home Department, Police, Civil Defence, Rescue 1122 and the Elite Police Training School, a five-week security guard training course was finalised. This course will be launched at 20 TEVTA institutes in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Attock, Sheikhpura, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Sahiwal, Multan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rahim Yar Khan.”

He said certificates would be issued to the trainees on completion of the course.

The TEVTA chairman said, “People should look towards the security sector for employment".

There is a huge demand for trained guards, especially in Gulf countries. Many multi-national organisations are demanding trained security guards from the TEVTA. Those who pass the course will definitely get jobs in Pakistan and abroad.”
