KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court sentenced on Monday a man, Abdul Karim, to 10 years in prison after convicting him for injuring a Rangers official during a robbery bid.

The accused was arrested in injured condition while his accomplice managed to escape. According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in April, 2013 when officer Faisal Malik along with his friend and a soldier were travelling in SITE. Two robbers on motorbike intercepted them and on gun point tried to mug them. However, Malik resisted the robbing bid which led to an exchange of fire.

The ATC-X judge awarded him 10 years imprisonment under the anti-terror law, three counts of seven years for hurting a man during the robbery and carrying an unlicensed weapon.

He was also given additional four years sentence under different sections. The punishment collectively makes a total of 35 years. However, they all will run concurrently.
