Manning railway level crossings: Ministry aims at preventing accidents   

The officials informed that there were over 2,000 unmanned railway level crossings

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to prevent accidents on railway tracks, the Ministry of Railways requires approximately Rs11 billion to ensure level-crossings manned across the country. “In terms of section 12 of the Railway Act 1890, the responsibility for upgrade of unmanned level crossing lies with the concerned provincial governments and road authorities,” said officials in the Ministry of Railways. However, for upgrading the railway level crossings, they said, Pakistan Railways would provide all possible technical assistance to the concerned authorities. The officials informed that there were over 2,000 unmanned railway level crossings. In this regard, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has written letters to chief executives of all provinces.
