‘Make an example of those selling adulterated food’

Newly appointed commissioner expresses disappointment with state of affairs at THQ hospitals

FAISALABAD: The Divisional Task Force for Anti Adulteration met at the Faisalabad commissioner’s office on Wednesday.

Divisional Task Force Chairman Haji Khalid Saeed said the provincial government was committed to weeding out factories and eateries involved in preparing and selling adulterated food. “However, we need to start taking an aggressive stance on the issue and be proactive in eliminating the mafia behind this adulterated food business.”

He welcomed Momin Agha, who has recently been appointed commissioner of the division, and said his cooperation and guidance would help them make the anti-encroachment drive a successful one.

MPA Mian Muhammad Rafique appreciated steps the awareness campaign launched by Divisional Task Force in this regard and various steps taken to control adulteration of food. He stressed the need to encourage the civil society to be proactive on the issue. “This campaign cannot be successful without the community’s push behind it.”

Commissioner Momin Agha expressed concern over the problem of adulteration of food. He asked officers of the Health Department to push ahead with the anti-adulteration campaign and to make an example out of those caught violating Food Safety laws. “I believe in making an example out of such nefarious elements…they cannot be allowed to operate with impunity.”

Separately, the new commissioner directed assistant commissioners to announce a cleanliness campaign at tehsil headquarter hospitals in the division. He told them to make sure the hospitals were cleaned up within the week.

Agha had visited some THQ Hospitals on Wednesday and had found them to be unsightly and unsanitary. He said he would visit hospitals towards the end of the week to examine the state of cleanliness there.

He said stern action would be taken against assistant commissioners and medical superintendents who failed to clean up the hospitals.
