Express May 06, 2010

KARACHI: Session court in Karachi acquitted all four accused of the Kainat Soomro rape case by giving them benefit of doubt on Thursday.

Kainat Soomro had alleged that four persons kidnapped her from an area near Dadu on January 10, 2007. They raped her for four days after which she managed to flee from their custody.

In February that year, a case was registered against four persons. However on Thursday (today) the court acquitted all four of them on the basis of insufficient evidences.

The released persons said that they would go to the court against the family of Kainat for involving them in this case.

In this or any non-compoundable case, police was/is duty bound to register the FIR but sadly no measures were taken to act according to the law. These culprits would have not been released by the court if the police have had done its job.
