ISLAMABAD: The city police busted gangs of robbers and carjackers and recovered 10 stolen vehicles. The police also arrested 30 outlaws involved in various crimes. This was claimed by the Senior Superintendent of Police Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan while talking to the journalists on Saturday.

He said a special police team succeeded in busting two inter-provincial gangs comprising eight accused involved in car snatching, robberies, theft incidents and recovered eight pistols from their possession.

The suspects were wanted in 19 cases of vehicle theft, car snatching, robbery and possession of illegal weapons registered at Shehzad Town police station.

They confessed of selling vehicles in Charsadda after lifting them and also used to sell the parts of Suzuki Mehran and FX in the same black market.

Khan said that they also snatched vehicles at gun point after hiring them from various areas of twin cities and were also involved in altering the chassis numbers of stolen vehicles. Owners of six vehicles were conveyed about the recovery of their vehicles while owners of remaining vehicles were being contacted.

The SSP said that the federal capital due to its geographic location was vulnerable to car theft. “This situation is challenging for us but Islamabad police teams visit tribal areas and other adjacent districts for recovery of the vehicles. The success ratio in this regard is very much appreciable,” he said.

The arrested suspects were identified as Imdad, Ajmal, Javed, Muhammad Akhtar Ali, Raj Wali, Ameer Nawab, Imran and Asif. They were residents of Charsada, Khana Dak Islamabad and other districts around Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

In addition, bodies and parts of four vehicles were recovered from them. On the basis of information provided by the nabbed persons, police teams were dispatched for the arrest of their other accomplices.
