OUAGADOUGOU: A crash between a bus and a lorry has killed at least 24 people in Burkina Faso, the government said Thursday.

The collision on the main road between Ouagadougou and the western city of Bobo-Dioulasso, happened around midnight, officials said.

"At least 24 people have been killed and 36 injured, 28 of whom are in a critical condition," the government said.

Reckless driving: Seven dead, nine injured in road crash

Last week, another bus crash to the south of Ouagadougou killed at least 15 people, while an accident in 2008 left 72 people dead.

Deadly road accidents are a frequent occurrence in the poor landlocked West African state where the condition of roads and vehicles is often poor and reckless driving common.
