World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director General Roberto Azevedo called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the PM Office on Monday.
Welcoming the WTO DG, the premier said Pakistan was actively pursuing regional integration and projects such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which consisted of $46 billion energy and infrastructure projects. These were aimed at boosting trade across the region.
The CPEC alone had the potential to immensely enhance trade amongst regional countries and improve lives of millions of people in the region, he said.
Highlighting the importance of trade, Sharif said Pakistan was updating its trade-related laws in order to achieve full integration in the global supply chain. “Pakistan is ready to enhance its partnership with the WTO and is open to international competitive trade ideas,” he said.
