ISLAMABAD:

The Public Accounts Committee [PAC] asked the Ministry of Water and Power on Wednesday not to entertain any future claims of K-Electric without verifying them from the audit department.

The direction was issued after it reviewed the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources’ audit reports for 2013-14 by the PAC. The committee is headed by Syed Khursheed Shah of the PPP.

Officials representing the Auditor-General of Pakistan referred to a special audit they conducted on the directives of the Prime Minister in 2013, saying that they had uncovered instances of over-billing.

During the meeting, the panel was told that over five years, the government spent Rs250 billion on providing subsidy to K-Electric for smooth supply of electricity to consumers.
