Canal engineers: NAB arrests two govt officials

Assistant engineer Syed Mohammad Hasnain Haider was also arrested

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sukkur arrested on Tuesday Rohri Canal Circle chief engineer and an assistant engineer on charges of misappropriating funds worth Rs3 billion.


NAB officials said complaints were received regarding massive corruption in the lining work of Rohri Canal in Dad Division Sakrand, and after a thorough inquiry and investigation, authorities decided to arrest the officials allegedly involved in the scam.  Officials said a NAB team raided the residence of chief engineer Ahmed Junaid Memon in Hyderabad. Sources also said the officer tried to flee but the NAB officials caught him. Besides him, assistant engineer Syed Mohammad Hasnain Haider was also arrested.


According to NAB officials, Memon, in his capacity as the chief engineer, carried out the lining work of Rohri canal in Dad Division Sakrand during 2015-16 and misappropriated funds to the tune of Rs3 billion.
