Journalists’ training: Workshop on conflict reporting

The former diplomat said journalists should promote national interests to enhance policy objective of the country

Speakers at a workshop on Tuesday urged journalists to be impartial and objective in their coverage of conflicts and terrorism.


They were speaking at a workshop for journalists covering conflict zones. Former ambassador and Senator Akram Zaki said journalists needed to acquire knowledge of political, economic and strategic issues impacting the global politics and policies of big powers and their proxies.


Zaki gave an overview of the Cold War and the post-Cold War world.


He said after the downfall of the Soviet Union, the United States wanted dominance over resources and made new alignment in different regions.


The former diplomat said journalists should promote national interests to enhance policy objective of the country.


Maira Imran, a newspaper reporter, called for exercising care while reporting on issues related to women and children.
