Joint raid: Three alleged kidnappers held

The police also claimed to have recovered the ransom sum as well as pistols and a bulletproof jacket

KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigation Agency of Sindh police, in collaboration with the special task force of Rangers, claimed on Monday to have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in short-term kidnappings in the metropolis. The suspects, identified as Taufiq Ahmed, Adnan and Kashif Ali, were held during a joint raid at PECHS Society. SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said the suspects were involved in various cases of short-term kidnappings. The officer said the suspects had recently abducted a 14-year-old boy, the son of a businessman, and demanded Rs1 million as ransom. However, they later released the boy after receiving over Rs300,000 in ransom from the family. The police also claimed to have recovered the ransom sum as well as pistols and a bulletproof jacket from the suspects’ possession.
