ISLAMABAD:

The West has again emerged as the usual suspect in the conspiracy theory against democratically elected governments of Asia as the balance of power is tilting eastward.

On Saturday, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani appealed to Asian politicians to join hands and thwart any attempt by the West to destabilise their democratic governments in the wake of a growing power shift that will mark the ascendancy of Asia.

“Western powers are trying to destabilise democratic governments in Asia and it is our duty as political parties to safeguard the democratic system,” Rabbani said. The Senate chairman was addressing the third workshop on human trafficking organised by the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

Four political groupings — Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) — have jointly organised the conference.

Senator Rabbani said that the balance of political and economic power was shifting from the West to the East and ICAPP can play an important role in the resurgence of Asia.
