FAISALABAD:

The Population Welfare Department is planning to launch a province-wide campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of having a small family.

The campaign will be designed at the district level with the objective of taking the message to the grassroots, Finance EDO Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor said on Monday.

He was presiding over a meeting of the district coordination committee for population welfare.

Banners carrying messages and slogans about the benefits and importance of having fewer children will be displayed on all main roads and traffic junctions in the district, he said. Smaller posters will be placed on public transport vehicles and rickshaws.

He said the department will also organise awareness sessions in rural areas on the need to control population growth.

“There is a dire need to raise awareness regarding population growth control among citizens,” he said. The number of awareness sessions they can organise will be contingent on the amount of resources available for the campaign.

The wrong kind of growth

“The government is also looking towards clerics and other influential people to cooperate with the government and make this campaign a success,” he said. Population Welfare DO Farkhanda Almas and other officers were present at the meeting.
