FAISALABAD: A swine flu patient who had been quarantined at the Allied Hospital on Monday, breathed his last on Tuesday.

Allied Hospital Emergencies Director Dr Zulfiqar Ahmed had said that 35-year-old Ahsan Masih, a resident of Chak-261-RB, Oddhwali, Dijkot, had suffered from hepatitis-C, diabetics and pneumonia. He had been referred to Allied Hospital from Mian Trust Hospital on Sunday night.

The patient’s blood samples had been sent to the National Health Laboratory in Islamabad to confirm diagnosis.   Focal person Masooma Sardar said that Ahsan had been admitted to the hospital’s Isolation Ward where he had been given the best available treatment for swine flu. However, Ahsan breathed his last on Tuesday night.

Allied Hospital doctors confirmed that another patient suspected of having contracted swine flu had been admitted to the hospital’s Isolation Ward. Muhammad Hussain, 70, father of Child Specialist Amir Hussain, was brought to the Allied Hospital with symptoms similar to those of swine flu. His blood samples have been sent to the National Health Laboratory to confirm the diagnosis. Dr Ahmed said arrangements for treatment of swine flu patients had been completed. He said a sufficient stock of vaccines was also available and the staff had been given proper training on how to set up an Isolation Ward for them.
