LAHORE:

Punjab Emergency Services Director General Brig (r) Dr Arshad Zia was informed on Sunday that 40,840 teachers had been provided school safety training during 2015.

He was chairing a meeting to review the School Safety Trainings and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs).

Briefing the meeting, Rescue 1122 Community Safety Wing head Roqayya Bano said that 2,635 CERT members had also been trained to promote the safety culture.

“A significant number of teams have been constituted and trained to respond in case of a major disaster. The CERTs have been established at union council level in all districts of the Punjab. After enrollment, the volunteers are trained for Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) and Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR),” she said. Zia said that Rescue 1122 was working closely with communities to enhance disaster response capacity, risk reduction and prevention of emergencies for the establishment of safer communities in all the districts of the Punjab. “More teacher training programmes should be introduced to promote safety culture. Rescue 1122, teachers, students and rescue scouts should hold training exercises to deal with any emergency or disaster,” he said.
