KARACHI:

Former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Wednesday evening, confirmed JPMC administration deputy director, Dr Javed Jamali.

On Monday, the administrative judge of accountability courts, Saad Qureshi, had directed the National Accountability Bureau, which has the physical custody of the suspect in a corruption case, to present Dr Asim before the JPMC director and admit him there, if so advised.

On Tuesday, the anti-terrorism court (ATC)-II was informed that the former federal minister for petroleum was being examined. The JPMC allotted a private room to Dr Asim on the same day after a five-member medical board recommended that he should be admitted to the health facility due to multiple complications, such as hypertension. A complete examination will be carried out on Thursday morning with a number of laboratory tests, said Dr Jamali. “The medical board had advised a basic treatment on Tuesday, which has already been started,” he said. Rangers and the police will be on guard during his stay at JPMC.
