Traffic wardens beat up man in Karachi over motorcycle parking

Fight broke out after man got into an argument with wardens over his motorcycle which was parked in a no parking zone

A man was rounded up after he got into a scuffle with traffic wardens in Karachi's PIDC area for parking his motorcycle in a no parking zone, Express News reported.

The fight broke out when the man, Shafiq, allegedly questioned traffic wardens for moving his motorcycle. The video showed the man being beaten up by three traffic wardens, who were later joined by two Sindh police officers.

The man retaliated by kicking and punching the wardens and hurling abuses at them. "The man used foul language and hit me with his helmet, that is when other officers intervened," the traffic warden said.

The man had reportedly parked his motorcycle in a no parking zone outside a bank in the PIDC area, which the traffic wardens said is a 'senior police officer's parking spot'.

He was later taken into police custody on charges of breaking the law and causing harm to traffic wardens.

Released on 'personal bail'

Shafiq, who was taken into custody for 'breaking the law and causing harm to traffic wardens', was released on personal bail after the matter came to fore through media.

Raza | 8 years ago | Reply Its pity to see three uniform officers beaten by a single man, what it shows exactly? Medieval training for Police officers. Police officers are unfamiliar of tactical communication, safety and self defense. They don’t even know how to restrain a violent person. In video footage three officers were struggling to get away from an enraged person. Such scenario creates poor image of Police department among masses. Police Department should reform their training module that primarily focus on very basic aspects i.e control and restrain, tactical communication and self defense.

His family claims that he is a chronic patient of depression which he was venting out on cops. We, as a nation, are no angels. Telling lies is another of our trademark.

I saw a cctv video which clearly showed that the motorcyclist was the first one to beat the wardens, so because of that I now think that, that there defense was justified but we must be cautious when it comes to revenge. Even a single extra blow from one side could result in questioning in the here after.

However, the response by the police team was also inappropriate to say the least. Long story short, no sanity prevailed

The motorcyclist has no right to attack the traffic warden and expect they will just let them do as they wish. It's unfortunate that the wardens had to attack him but I can assure you that traffic wardens would protect themselves from a motorist who thinks he is above the law and can park anywhere he wants because he believes he is yet another VIP.

Had this motorcyclist been in any developed country he would certainly have heeded what was required if him. Tolerance has been twisted in Pakistan to mean: " who cares !"

** Traffic police mafia after minting money from commuters have now resorted to beating and torturing them up as well. Had media not intervened then they might have beaten him to death or implicated him in false and fabricated cases.

IBN E ASHFAQUE | 8 years ago | Reply @Timorlane: The motorcycle gang together like crows as they are all of the poorer section of the society and the FORMAL SYSTEM does not provide justice in Pakistan to ordinary citizens of Pakistan. Hence, ordinary citizens gang up and do vigilante action trying to protect their rights although in the process often excesses are committed by them. However, the problem is that the judicial system is absolutely rotten and does not function in Pakistan. The country needs to reform its judicial system otherwise we will fight with one another till we perish.......May Allah guide us all....
