SAHIWAL: A woman was shot dead for ‘honour’ allegedly by her brother in a Farid Town police precinct.

Police said the 20-year-old woman, a resident of Barkat Town near Noor Shah Road, Sahiwal, had left home a few months ago because she was being forced to marry someone she didn’t like.

Police said when she returned home, her parents detained her in the house and forcibly married her off to a cousin. Police said that her husband divorced her after a month and she returned home.

Her brother Shaukat thought that she had “loose morals” and shot her dead, police said. They said they had registered an FIR and an investigation was underway. They said that Shaukat had fled and they were looking for him.

The woman’s father said that Shaukat had blamed his sister for the divorce. He had shot her because she had reprimanded him for doubting her character, he said.
