Crime and punishment: Convicted kidnapper gets life term

The judge also imposed a Rs100,000 fine on the convict and issued directions for confiscation of his property

FAISALABAD: A man was convicted of kidnapping for ransom and sentenced to life imprisonment by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday. Liaqat Ali had kidnapped one Muhammad Ashiq, a resident of Madina Town’s W-block, in July 2015 and demanded Rs800,000 ransom for his release. He had been arrested by Madina Town police and presented before the court of Judge Raja Parvaiz Akhtar. On Tuesday, the judge sentenced him to life imprisonment on two counts and a five-year prison term. The judge also imposed a Rs100,000 fine on the convict and issued directions for confiscation of his property.
