KARACHI: Fast-bowler Mohammad Amir is on the brink of a comeback in the national team as he was named among the 26 players called for the fitness training camp which will run from December 21, 2015 to January 7, 2016 in Lahore.

Amir has been in the limelight ever since he returned to the domestic fold after his five-year ban; recently making waves at the Bangladesh Premier League where he dismissed established batsmen and compatriots Shahid Afridi, Misbahul Haq and Mohammad Hafeez.

The left-armer’s inclusion may not go down too well with Hafeez, who has voiced concerns over sharing a dressing room with Amir, claiming that the 23-year-old let his country down during the spot-fixing scandal.

Senior bowler Umar Gul is also back in contention after doing well in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QAT) for HBL. Gul’s career has been plagued by a recurring knee injury but he seems to have finally overcome it.

Meanwhile, rookie left-arm pacer Rumman Raees has been called up as well after impressing for Pakistan A against the English Lions in their five-match T20 series.

The main objective of the camp is to improve the players’ overall physical fitness and enhance their technical aspects in order to prepare them for upcoming international assignments.
