Personal enmity: Couple working as polio team attacked

The attackers, who were close relatives of the couple, did not want Yasmeen and Nazeer to enter the village

HYDERABAD: A couple working as polio team was attacked by residents of a village in Thatta over a personal dispute. The lady health worker Yasmeen Channa and her husband Nazeer Channa were returning after giving polio drops to children when they were attacked with wooden sticks by the people in village Siddique Channa in Sakro taluka on Monday. The injured couple was shifted to Shaikh Zaid Hospital. Dr Hanif Umrani, focal person of polio campaign, confirmed that their team number A3 was attacked, but the incident was not related to immunisation. Police arrested two suspects, Lal Mohammed Channa and Omar Channa. According to police, the villagers were not opposed to polio vaccination. However, the attackers, who were close relatives of the couple, did not want Yasmeen and Nazeer to enter the village.
