Various scholars from across the country and abroad presented their research papers at the final day of the international conference, 'Sindh: History and Culture,' held at Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu) in Khairpur on Wednesday.
The three-day conference was jointly organised by The National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research, Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad and Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. Salu vice-chancellor professor Dr Parveen Shah presided over the concluding session, while Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana, vice-chancellor Professor Dr Ghulam Asghar Channa was the chief guest.
Dr Shah said that Sindh is a very rich land, culturally and historically. She added that the history of Sindh dates back to thousands of years.
While addressing the audience, Professor Dr Ghulam Asghar Channa said that history and social sciences are an integral part of development.
He believes that the preservation of heritage, culture and civilisation is a collective duty.
Expressing his concerns about the slow progress of the province, Dr Channa said that Sindh is rich in natural resources and is producing 60 per cent of gas and other resources, but the people are still living below the poverty line.
Various teachers, researchers and officials attended the concluding ceremony of the conference. Later on, the delegates paid a visit to historical places, including Kot Diji Fort, shrine of Sachal Sarmast and Mohenjo Daro.
