DSP shot dead in Karachi

TTP claims responsibility for killing DSP Abdul Fateh Sangri and two other police officials

KARACHI: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bin Qasim Abdul Fateh Sangri was killed on Friday in Gulshan-e-Hadeed area of Karachi, Express News reported.

According to police, unidentified assailants opened fire on the car of the deceased and fled from the scene. Two other policemen, Nazeer and Farooq, were also killed in the incident.

District East SSP Pir Muhammad Shah said the miscreants shot the deceased at least 22 times with 9mm pistols, killing the victims on the spot.

The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

"DSP Fateh was number 37 on our hit-list," the TTP spokesperson, Muhammad Khorasani said.

The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Fateh was reportedly present at the press conference held by SSP Rao Anwar on April 30 during which the SSP had alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) maintains connections with India’s spy agency RAW, Express News reported. He was later suspended by the Inspector General Sindh (IGP) for making such comments.

Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah condemned the attack and sought a report from the IG Sindh over the incident.

The IG Sindh said initial investigations reveal that the attack was an act of terror, adding that he has ordered the security personnel to arrest the culprits immediately.

The deceased police official was posted at Bin Qasim police station for the past two years.

Meanwhile, a case against the DSP’s murder was registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Steel Town police station.

Salman - SK | 8 years ago | Reply @Troubled: The reason people have trouble buying your line of thinking is that tomorrow when MQM is needed again, they will be invited to join the provincial government, or even the federal government as federal ministers. This hide and seek game is going on for the last 30 years and has lost credibility with the public. If they are indeed terrorists, why appease them and court them at times. And, now vilify them for everything, from being foreign agents to being terrorists. The State is not serious in enforcing its' writ and provide law and order to its' citizens.

I think Pakistan police is responsible for whole dirt that we are seeing all around us. If police become honest no body can dare to break law. Law is there but its implementation is issue. And law can only implemented if police become honest. Present day killings of law enforcement agencies is beacuse of their own past deeds.

However the question remains that in prevailing situation how can we expect to keep the morale of security forces,particularly police high to fight criminals? All those police officials ,involved in 1992 operation have been eliminated except two as per public statement of SSP, Anwaar Rao and culprits neither identified nor punished.

Troubled | 8 years ago | Reply @Loyal: The sad part is, that due to its history of violence, the MQM is going to have a very hard time distancing itself from it in the future. It doesn't help that grenades were recovered from Nine Zero. And using the line that it's for self defence is not applicable with grenades.
