KARACHI: Pakistan cricket team's newly appointed chief selector Haroon Rashid announced the team for the Bangladesh tour in a press conference on Friday.

Right-arm off-spinner Saeed Ajmal made a comeback to all the three formats with his new bowling action which is now within the legal 15 degree limit.

Meanwhile, Umar Akmal was excluded from all three formats after his bad performance in the 2015 World Cup and Pakistan's full-time opener Ahmed Shehzad was only limited to T20s.

Haroon Rashid said that the committee dropped a few players after their bad World Cup performances.

“Players who did not play for the team and had attitude and other issues were not given a go in the series,” said Haroon.

“They will have to remove their weakness and make comebacks. It is a message to all cricketers. They have to perform according to team management's strategy.”

He further clarified the non-selection of some other players.

“Six to seven players are in rehab. Muhammad Irfan, Anwar Ali and Hammad Azam are in rehab. We consulted the medical professionals and we want every player to be perfectly fit before they come into the team.

“We have to prepare players in four years for the next World Cup. We are giving opportunities to the youngsters so that they can prove themselves. We are currently at number seven in ODIs and we want to improve our ranking in the 50-over format preferably”

When asked about Pakistan’s all-round options, he said, “We have Tanvir, Haris as all-rounders and Azhar himself can bowl a bit.”

“The young Saad, with his leg-spinners, is also another option if Pakistan need more bowling options.”

Faiq | 9 years ago | Reply New C.S Haroon Rashid showed some class while eliminating some rude and under performing big names. But this approached shall catch consistency in future and should not be restricted only against weak teams like Bangladesh. I think this selection criteria based on utmost principles like discipline and performance will gain unanimous appreciation and popularity through out Pakistan. With best wishes for Team Pakistan.
