There is a common perception that women cannot compete with men. Nazia Parveen begs to differ.

Pakistan’s high-achieving sportsperson said our male dominating society finds it difficult to accept that women can move ahead of men. However, she said “any target can be achieved with passion and focus; women can beat men.”

Originally from Bajaur Agency, Parveen climbs and paraglides too. She made history as the first woman to take part in the two-day International Rock Climbing Competition in Singapore.

Parveen’s brother recalled her climbing walls and trees even when she was a young child rather than playing with dolls like girls of her age.

The young sportsperson had won 13 climbing events, receiving several best player awards – many a time beating male participants. She had also played badminton, basketball and handball at local level.

Parveen wants to change how people view Pakistan and prove that it is a capable country.

“I am Nazia Parveen, I am Pakistan,” she said.
