Five cops suspended for torturing youth

SSP Central ordered suspension, headquarters closure of five policemen involved in assault on citizen Anwar Ali

KARACHI:

An incident of alleged torture on a young man at Sharifabad police station has once again highlighted police misconduct and lawlessness in District Central.

Taking strict notice of the matter, SSP Central Dr. Muhammad Imran Khan ordered the suspension and headquarters closure of five policemen involved in the assault on citizen Anwar Ali.

According to the SSP Central spokesperson, SDPO Liaquatabad was tasked with conducting a transparent and impartial inquiry.

The initial report found four personnel of the Shaheen Force and a sentry of Sharifabad police station guilty of involvement. All five have been suspended and directed to report to headquarters, while further departmental proceedings are underway.

SSP Dr. Imran Khan stated that any form of abuse, misuse of authority, or violation of law against citizens will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against officers and personnel without discrimination.
