According to a release from the Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that the first fleet of strategic drones, 'Burraq' and 'Shahpar', had been inducted into the forces. Both of the drones were produced indigenously.
The military described the induction as a “landmark and historic event,” where a “very effective force multiplier has been added to the inventory of the armed forces.”
“In the future these UAVs could also be gainfully employed in various socio-economic development projects, as well,” it added, hinting at the possibility of using drones in non-combat settings and for civilian use.
The induction ceremony was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Director General Strategic Plans Division Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, and senior officers from armed forces, scientists and engineers.
General Kayani, while appreciating the work of NESCOM scientists and engineers, highlighted that induction of indigenously developed surveillance capable UAVs in Pakistan Armed Forces is a force multiplier, and will substantially enhance their target acquisition capabilities in real time.

@Dhaka: Done with car engine. Entire car actually. Google 'Proficient' or Adam motors.
@Pakistaniloyalist: pakchina friendship zindabad
These are large scale remote control airplanes, hardly drones.
when we will finally be able to develop armed drones the world would have moved to even further superior more lethal technology but then our priority is the property business the bakery business the water tanker business the fertilizer business the cereals business so business first defense can wait defence society first
@Queen:
Agree to a certain extent. Plus look at how they are laughing on the carnage that drone strikes cause in Pakistan. I wonder if they have seen the condition of locals living in FATA including children who suffered the drone strikes with a human heart. No sane human can clap at the murder of innocents.
After reading comments on Indian readers [and some Bangladeshis as well], it has become evident that grapes are sour
shame on pakistan ------------ shame on pakistan ------------ shame on pakistan ------------ shame on pakistan ------------ shame on pakistan ------------ shame on pakistan ------------
@Dhaka: HATERS gonna HATE
Pakistani superman can try this.

A fleet of AK-47 wielding super-Pakis swarming the sky will surely put fear in the hearts of all enemies.
These are toys sold in departmental stores of US.
Turkey and China have helped Pakistan develop UAV. How to operate UAV manual was read by US. Pakistan cannot even manufacture a napkin. Pakistan spent more than 400 billion dollars this year on defense. A nation that goes around with a begging bowl needs UAV technology for what? Pakistan is not going to use this against taliban. It will and is already using it for surveillance against its eternal enemy India.
@Dhaka: Very true...Pardox is the word which describes us Pakistanis...a nuclear nation which cannot manufacture a needle...world's sixth largest pool of scientists with a collapsed education system and spending less than 1% of GDP on education...you can figure a whole lot of them...
These types of drones can find plenty in toy shop of china.
How would the Kaptaan react if our own drones attack the militants in tribal areas?
Pakistan has single handedly changed the meaning of the word "indigenously"
@Khurram: You sir, are 101 percent correct. Put it over South and North Waziristan to see it operational viability. Salams

@dhaka
Your ignorance is good for us. keep living in your dillusional mind.
@ xnain ,US is greeting you for the last five year daily .
@ Truth detecter , English is father mother language not mine .so I don't bother about incohrency but massage should be conveyed .
Congratulations. Wonderful news, twice in a week. First the CubeSat-1, and now drones. Amazing prowess. Wait a minute, my grandson is complaining that his iPhone operated airplane is missing.
@Pakistani patriot in USA You are so overwhelmed by IK hatred that you did not read that it is unarmed drone. Hatred is effecting your psychology & yes the there is Psyche ward looking for a patient. Interested?
@Dr. A,K.Tewari ... Dear "Dr", is your hatred & prejudice cause of your incoherency or effect?
Sincerely A rational Pakistani patriot from US
Pretty good for a country that can't manufacture a simple 70cc combustion engine for a motorcycle. Even the chain is imported!
Really indigenous or have they simply assembled parts imported (or worse still, smuggled) from technologically advanced countries? I do believe Intel is a major supplier of specialised microchips that run the sophisticated circuitry in unmanned aerial devices. Oh, and the camera? Let me guess........ Pakistan Steel Mill?
These drones are just china baby's , they can carry missiles nor they can fly really of the limits into other countries...
IT is just a surveillance drone and cant carry missile , just don't think that every drone is as lethal as niche American one, so please use some research before hailing comments
Is this available on eBay as a kit? I am reminded of the gyrocopter and light aircraft that were 'designed' and manufactured in Pakistan that were also available from online stores. But, then one must also remember Pakistan 'designs and manufactures' a whole range of missiles and fighter aircraft!

@Dhaka: for your kind information we have had indigenous drones for civilian purposes being made since 2001! considering that you are from a poverty infested africa like country which we ruled on, seems quite strange what you are saying ,ps stop deleting my commentd ET. its frustrating
@imran bhatt:
its arabic..which is not really foreign given urdu is nothing but a bunch of otherwise foreign languages amalgamated into one language.
i appreciate
So let me get it straight the indigenous drone will collect the coordinates on the target and will pass it on to the CIA drone for firing the hellfire MISSILES. It makes sense to collect the bounty on the side to cover the operating expenses.
When are we going to get serious? We are viewed as jokers.
@RM: Waiting for the negative comments of our next door neighbours.
RM ji, why wait for Indians when you can read the negative comments already posted by your hum-watan :D . The negative comments that you speak of are also very sane comments coming from sane and patriotic pakistanis. But I don't expect you to realize that. Go ahead... call them paid Hindu agents... or Hindus with fake Muslim names.
Few of us have an incredible ability to think negative. Whether this drone is merely a surveillance drone, whether operated on line-of-sight principle,, or whatever it is,,, the fact remains that "We have made it",,, scientists of this poor nation have made SOMETHING,,, for those who are calling it a lie,, don't listen to ISPR releases,, plz continue to hear TRUTH from politicians. @Dhaka,,, yes we can not make Car Engines,, but we have world's 4th largest Nuclear Stockpile,, with a state of the art delivery system (you can consult western sources for this) PAKISTAN ZINDABAD
We as a nation are in the habit of criticising all the time. Why cant your appreciate that this is one big achievement by Pakistani scientists?
@Talking Point: And you take wikipedia as a source.....hahahaha.....that all I can say....
@PakiMujahid: For finding out whether its halal or not, you'll have to "taste" it and soon enough if there is again a disturbance from Indian side on LoC or Border, Halal missile home deliveries will certainly be banging Indian bunkers and hideouts.
@Pakk: Burraq drone is the Armed one and it is a new addition in the inventory of previous drones of Pakistan Army which only have surveillance capabilities but cannot target or engage any enemy.
@Uza Syed: How about testing it on 90?.....:P
ooh come on your terrorist have more experience with drones than army or air force . So have suggestion with them .
@IndianDude: Thanks but not thanks Dude for making us aware of how India manufactures aircrafts for its armed forces.
..so this is somehow going to stop the real drones that are ARMED WITH MISSILES that fire at you..???? hahaha
Ccongratulatios to all who elabored, PK its really ned same invension to serveilence all intelince services special RAO in the Peshawar Embassy and most of Baluchistan. My special request to all Army,Navy,Air Force and ISI , it's fun in saving lifes , collect proof, it's possibel take in front of anything; weather's , geiser's , vulcanic eruption , fires same like Australia , California , Portugal, and any place of world , please sale for every country , don't look back . I give. Five STAR . Assalamualleikum WR WB
@kapt slim: the drones may be capable of firing missiles eventually but the real question that begs an answer is whether the missiles themselves may fire when needed?
@Dhaka; please visit---> http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotiveindustryin_Pakistan
Good Luck Pakistan Arm Forces NESCOM Keep It Up.
@dhaka..Sir i am a mechanical egineer,i made car engine (in my final year project)four years ago,,Which i thought wasn't a big deal...LOOKS LIKE YOU WERE SLEEPING for almost 20 years,,,,
Do people have any brains here? Picture is selected by ET. And they chose the picture from the ceremony.
A. Buy a cell phone, turn on, make a video call/chat to an another cell phone. B. Use a tape to attach the first cell phone (With camera facing down) to a remote controlled toy plane (made in china preferred, for price) paint it with color green. C. Fly the toy plane. As the toy plane fly over the terrain you have a live video-audio feed on the your second cell phone. D. Announce to the world you have indigenously developed a surveillance drone! Call the media announce it to gullible public.
Ah well, it's still an encouraging development nevertheless. The mechanics and the technology is rather cumbersome to master but one can only wish that The developers would work overtime to weaponise these platforms which can strike a decisive blow to PTI's militant arm operating in the tribal areas.
This is a major step for our security, prosperity and economic progress. On the second thought some are already so happy as if we do not have any problem and do not need to "waste" monies on public as they are used to living in terrible conditions.
Would all please note that without access to an active MILSAT communication/control link, any drones will be limited to line of sight operations! Also the model shown in the picture appears to have hard points under the wings capable of carrying mission specific loads (weapons/missiles/bombs?)
@PakiMujahid: Please read the caption correctly my friend, Khalid Ahmad Kidwai is handing over the replica of the drone manufactured by Pakistan.
Great achievement as Pakistan army has proved itself to be the most advanced organized and fearless force. Induction of UAVs will give Pakistan an edge over the adversaries, real time surveillance and target accuracy will be boosted to assure deterrence as well as domestic security.
The one shown is a Joke as far as size of India is concerned.....And u should have shown true pictures of UAV to make people understand weather its made a Halal and whats Islamic in it..........
@Dr. A,K.Tewari: May be one or two missiles can be fired across LoC or even international border to greet our Indian friends :)
@Adnan Siddiqi: Actually drones look something like CH-3 drone of China, there were rumors about China supplying Pakistan with some drones. May be we have been able to reverse engineer them.
Waiting for the negative comments of our next door neighbours.
Congratulations to the Pak scientists , you handed over it to Pak army at a very right time . Now you can save your soveregnity by owning drone's hit . US will hit and you will own it . Elimination target has to be achieved to achieve the IPI project . A real lolypope grab it .
What a great achievement by our country. Now there would be peace, prosperity, and public would not have to worry about their safety from terrorists. Money well spent by our rich country. Why spend any on poverty, education, healthcare, power generation and civic infrastructure? We are the most powerful beggar in the world.
A great technological leap by Pakistan Congratulations to scientists of Nescom, their hard work has proved fruitful finally Here it is not clear that whether these UAVs are capable of firing missiles or not ?
Yes now arm these bad boys so they can hit the ttp.
Poor choice of names. Why everything has to be driven by religion. Why we can't have indigenous names. Hellfire, Tomahawk, Raptor, Cobra, Blackhawk are much better than any of the names we have chosen for any of our weapons.
hope pakistani drones will be used instead of american wherever needed in pakistan!
Oh Wow...smallest drone...must also add this in Guniess World record
You had similar article about a year ago - a few days later there was a drone crash and we haven't heard much about drones since then. Lets hope you do better this time around.
@Adnan Siddiqi: It's just the replica, wait for the real thing to "cut into" anything, buddy with this model you can decorate the mess halls of the forces and pm secretariat, that's just about it.
Pakistani drone named burraq... O bama. Must be some conspiracy. We need halal drones.
junk chinese technology developed by some chinese high school students making way into our army.. what more shameful
Does Gen Kidwai have a job for life?
now if US attacks TTP they will be certain that it is Pakistan instead. But at least PTI can now relax since it will not be the violation of the sovereignty.
wonder what will be the reaction of usa if pakistan drones fazullah in afghanistan
Test these drones on TTP. By the time these TTP "bugs" are eliminated we might also be able to get rid of technical bugs in the drones. Then we can start exporting drones to the Gulf countries and African states to earn some precious foreign exchange.
Good . now we can send drone to FATA to negotiate / seek pardon from the TTP
@Adnan Siddiqi: Relax, its just for surveillance.
@Adnan Siddiqi: Ummm... these are reported as surveillance drones, and not combat drones, so I guess you can't do without the Reapers and Predators just yet.
Looks very small!!!
This is designed to drone, India or Iran? ;/..Oooo.
This will drive Imran Khan finally over the cliff! Not only America is firing drones on to his friends, but now even our own forces? Is there a psychological ward at his hospital?
@Adnan Siddiqi: These are not weaponized buddy. Still need 'em Yankees to do our dirty work! :)
Induction of fleet of indigenously developed drones(UAVs) in army should have been celebrated with the photos of real UAVs and not with its replica.
All of the new products coming out of Pakistan are like missiles, tanks, fighter aircrafts, bombs, etc and now drones.
It simply points out where the public money goes and who is driving the nation.
Until and unless pakistan can move out of military driven governance, the troubles, including the terrorism, are here to stay.
I would not be surprised if these indigenously developed drones have a way of finding their way into the hands of Taliban, TTP. :-)
Expect to see US drones versus Pakistani drones clashing against each other very soon.
What is the navy Captain doing in the middle? The navy has not been mentioned as another receiver of these UAV's.
"As of 2012 the Burraq is believed to be in service" says Wikipedia. Why the tamasha of induction now? Is it to show that Pakistan is also capable of launching drone attacks or is it a follow up of the Iranian advanced drone revealer?
I would also like to propose a new plan to combat polio. One of the drones can be fitted with polio drops vaccines and landed to areas which have high [percentage of such children. These will be accompanied with weapons fitted drones. I assure you no "na maloom afrad" will dare to target polio vaccinations ever again.
@Adnan Siddiqi:
Its a surveillance drone..cannot fire rockets!!!
Burraq is inducted and Barak is named in drone FIR
Yeah... the terrorists are now shrinking in their boots out of fear.
Give it a test flight over South Waziristan to check how capable it is to identify bad mullahs
Right now these drones are 1'x1'x3" in size, are manually operated, and fit in a box as the replica shown in the above picture.
All Pakistan has so far are non combat surveillance only drones yet by namely NESCOM and Integrated Dynamics. I hope Paki develops some UCAVs. Even those bought by the NAvy from Spain namely Falco are not combat ones.
Great achievement and historic event for the whole nation ... Pakistan Zindaabad...
Does the drone have offensive capabilities or is it a surveillance drone?
@Adnan Siddiqi: These are just surveillance drones for your information! Not the combat ones which America uses in our territory.
What a bunch of lies...
Could also be used to target Fazlullah and other thugs hiding in Afghanistan.
Still can't compete with American drones. We need better drones.
I thought they were already deployed. These UAVs are not new and Army has been using them for good few years. I wonder why top brass felt the need to formally make this announcement.
A country which even could not able to build car engine, claim that they developed drone indegeneously,strange !
Waste of money if they can't respond to drones and defend the country borders and pretend that nothing had happened...
Buraq, foreign name for an indigenous drone. Could you not find any appropriate word in Urdu or from rich and colourful regional dialects accross Pakistan?
Well-done & Congratulations. On track & focused, the armed forces & defense production has made us proud, despite distractions, defamation and ill will of Judiciary, section of media, terrorists apologists in form of politicians & clerics.
Excellent! Now we won't be dependent on MQ-9 Reapers and Predators to cut into TTP.
