A woman was burned allegedly by her husband and his brother following an argument over eidi.
She was taken to a hospital, where doctors said that she would likely survive.
Both the alleged assailants fled the crime scene.
Ghulam Muhammadabad police quoted the woman as saying that she had been asking her husband Muhammad Aslam for eidi. She said he had been ignoring her since Eid day.
On Friday, she said, she planned to go shopping with some women in the neighbourhood and asked Aslam for Rs5,000 eidi again. This time, she said, he leaped at her and grabbed her by the hair and beat her.
He then called his brother, Muhammad Akram, who caught her by the arms while Aslam threw kerosene oil at her. They then set fire to her clothes.
Some neighbours heard her shout for help and rushed to her rescue. On seeing the people approach, both of them fled leaving the woman burning.
She was taken to Allied Hospital, where doctors treating her said that she was in critical condition.
Dr Rauf Ahmad of the emergency ward told The Express Tribune that the woman was 55 per cent burned. He said she had received severe burns on the face, chest, shoulders and back.
Station House Officer Naveed Cheema said that a case had been registered with the woman’s brother as the complainant. He said a police team had been formed to find the suspects.

It is stupid that in this day and age men enslave women via money. It is an outrage that wives have to beg husbands.
