Taliban militants attacked two security posts in Lower Dir late Thursday night, according to security officials. Heavy exchange of firing was reported from the area and continued till the filing of this report.
Meanwhile, casualties or injuries could not be ascertained either due to the exchange of fire. According to official sources, militants attacked security check posts at Inkle Sar and Miskini Darra areas of Samar Bagh Tehsil in Lower Dir.
The militants belong to the Hafizullah group, also known as Kochwan, the leader of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chapter in Dir, believed to be hiding in Afghanistan, sources said. Militants purportedly came from across the border, and targeted the posts.
There were also reports of a village besieged by the militants near the border with Bajaur Agency’s Pishat area. The village was reportedly evacuated but this could not be officially confirmed.
