The Agahi Awards were designed to encourage professionalism in journalism, they were based on the basis of a strict judging criteria developed in collaboration with the Center for International Media Ethics (CIME) and on UNESCO's pillars of Media Development Indicators.
The award in the category of Education was won by Saadia Khalid of The News International on her story on the devolution of Higher Education in Pakistan. Her story forced the policy makers in correcting policy decision on Educational reforms.

Gender discrimination continues as always. There were no awards given to female journalists in any of the prominent categories.Women are always treated as second class citizens in the professional world.
