The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Friday a notice on a contempt application to the acting vice-chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Prof Masood Hameed Khan, for allegedly violating a court stay order passed earlier.


A division bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, also restrained the acting VC from taking major decisions regarding the varsity's affairs till further orders. The contempt application was filed by Advocate Shahbaz, who informed the judges that the court had, on December 1, 2015, restrained Khan from taking any major decisions, including convening meetings of the senate/syndicate, till further orders. Yet, the acting vice-chancellor convened a departmental meeting regarding affairs of the varsity, he alleged.


The lawyer argued that the respondent's conduct amounts to willfully and deliberately committing contempt of the court order. Therefore, he pleaded the court initiate contempt of court proceedings against the acting VC.
