Housing minister remains unhurt in bomb-proof vehicle
BANNU:
At least two persons were killed when a roadside bomb hit the convoy of federal housing and works minister and JUI-F leader Akram Khan Durrani in Frontier Region (FR) Bannu near North Waziristan on Thursday.
Former CM of K-P, Durrani, was returning home in his bomb-proof vehicle after attending a party meeting in Narmikhel area, in the limits of Bakakhel police station, when unidentified militants tried to target him with an improvised explosive device (IED).
An official of Bakakhel police station said that Malik Nawab Khan was joining JUI-F along with his family and friends on Thursday. Nawab Khan happens to be uncle of Special Assistant to K-P Chief Minister Shah Muhammad Khan.
The family had organised a big public gathering on the occasion in Narmikhel area, in the limits of Bakakhel police station.
Durrani, his cousin Azam Khan Durrani MPA and several other party officials were specially invited to attend the ceremony.
The official said that soon after Durrani ended his speech he left the venue. The entourage of the minister had travelled a short distance when the IED blast occurred.
Durrani remained safe because his vehicle was bomb-proof, but five people, including two policemen in an escort vehicle, were wounded in the blast which also damaged an ambulance in the convoy, he said.
A person on board the ambulance and an unidentified motorcyclist died in the blast.
A vehicle carrying journalists was also following the convoy, but they remained unhurt in the blast.
