Rangpur Riders skipper and Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib alHasan led from the front in his side’s emphatic 69-run win over Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Shakib decided to bat first after winning the toss and the decision immediately paid dividends with West Indian Lendl Simmons scoring 51 off 39 balls to give his side a superb start, smashing five fours and three sixes before being dismissed by Mosharraf Hossain.

Rangpur had seemed like they were on their way to a score closer to 200 after being 122-2 in the 14th over but then lost their way a little as Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah suffocated the batsmen with some good bowling.

Yasir was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-24 in his four overs, but Shakib took it upon himself to give his side the impetus once again in the death overs, scoring 24 off 15 balls to take the Riders to 176-6 in their 20 overs.

Shakib then opened the bowling for his side and was superb right from the word go. He claimed the wickets of Dhaka openers Shamsur Rahman and Pakistan’s Nasir Jamshed in the third over to ensure the Dynamites never really got going. The left-armer ended with impressive figures of 4-16 to give his side a comfortable two points.
