The police claim to have killed three notorious gangsters allegedly involved in grenade attacks on political gatherings and the killing of cops during an alleged encounter in Lyari on Monday.

An encounter between the police and gangsters took place when the police were conducting a search operation in Baghdadi. Police officials said that the three gangsters were killed during an exchange of fire and that the police also recovered weapons from their possession. Their bodies were taken to Civil hospital, where they were later identified as Jabbar alias Dada alias Chandio, Abdul Raheem alias Rani and Rizwan alias Rado.

City district SSP Fida Hussain Janwari claimed that the gangsters belonged to the Uzair Baloch group and were wanted in various cases of crime, including police killings, targeted killings, extortion and grenade attacks on political gatherings. Cases have been registered and further investigation is underway.

Early on Monday, a large number of Rangers men launched a door-to-door operation in parts of PIB Colony, including Old Sabzi Mandi and Essa Nagri. The localities were cordoned off during the operation that lasted at least five hours and no one was allowed to enter or exit the area. The women’s wing of the Rangers also participated in the operation and the police provided backup.


The Rangers' spokesperson said that the Rangers conducted a series of targeted raids in the Old Sabzi Mandi area at hideouts of criminals and drug dens and arrested 18 suspects during the operation. The suspects were later shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning. The spokesperson claimed that the paramilitary force dismantled several narcotics dens, burning narcotics and other equipment and recovering 23 weapons of various calibers along with liquor bottles.

Meanwhile, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police claims to have arrested three alleged target killers during a raid in SITE. CTD's special investigation unit incharge inspector Tariq Islam said that a raid was conducted on the information about the presence of criminals planning major criminal activities in the city, adding that the suspects belonged to the Shahid Bikik group. They were identified as Syed Arif Hussain Rizvi, Irfan Lodhi and Ismail Wali. Weapons were also recovered from their possession.

Inspector Islam claimed that during the initial investigation the suspects confessed to the killing of Preedy police chief SHO inspector Ghazanfar Kazmi, who was gunned down in April this year.
