ISLAMABAD:

A petition has been filed in a local court seeking directives for sterilising and cleaning water filtration plants in the federal capital.

The petitioner, Iftikhar Hussain, has also sought directives from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to change rusty and faulty filters to save the public from waterborne diseases as the water provided through most of the plants is not safe for human consumption.

The petitioner, making the Capital Development Authority chairman, Water Management Cell director-general and others respondents, has also requested the court to issue orders to the officials to collect water samples from different filtration plants to test them to ascertain its fitness for human consumption before submitting a compliance report before the court.

The petitioner stated that he along with many other citizens are deprived of clean drinking water as most filtration plants are worn-out and in a dilapidated condition and water from these plants was risky.

He has maintained that CDA has installed over 28 water filtration plants in various sectors but many of them were dysfunctional while the rest were supplying polluted water to the citizens.

“The CDA has spent millions of rupees on installation of water filtration plants but has neglected them,” the petitioner has claimed adding that most filtration plants were in a dilapidated condition.

IHC judge Aamer Farooq will take up the case on Tuesday.
