In an interview with BBC Urdu on Thursday, Reham admitted the high-profile union came to an end as “we couldn’t go along together”. “My goals in life are a bit different... and we simply did not understand each other.”
The mother of three also clarified that she had never been a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which is led by Imran. “I never intended to do politics then and don’t plan on doing it now,” she said.
She claimed she had never paid much attention to the party’s ideology. “I supported Imran in politics because he was a part of my family. I help out other members of my family as well. Imran had no objections to it.”
When asked if her marriage ended because she wanted to enter politics despite the PTI chief’s opposition, Reham said no Pakistani woman could think of divorce over such a trivial thing “I cannot enter politics because I hold dual nationality,” she explained. “And even if didn’t, I don’t think our [Pakistan’s] problems can be solved through politics. We need to change our mindset.”
Responding to whether she sees the PTI being successful in the future, she said she wished the best for the party. “The way things are going, I pray that good people remain with Khan sahib who wants to work for Pakistan,” she added.
