KARACHI:
The national selection committee, headed by Haroon Rasheed, has included Umar Akmal in the T20 squad against England.

Umar was cleared by an inquiry initiated by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) security and vigilance department after media reported his involvement in a violation of the board’s code of conduct.

The series against England commences on November 26 at the Dubai International Stadium, followed by a match at the same venue on November 27 and the third game in Sharjah on November 30.

On the other hand, Iftikhar Ahmed has been called back to make way for Umar.

“Umar had been part of the original squad named by the selection committee, but he was held back on instructions from the board as he had been issued a show cause notice for bringing the PCB and Pakistan cricket’s name into disrepute,” explained Haroon.

“Now that he has been cleared of the Hyderabad incident, he has been inducted in the squad while we have called Iftikhar back.”

Meanwhile, all-rounder Imad Wasim has been ruled out of the squad after failing to recover from a hand injury.

According to Head of PCB’s Medical and Sports Sciences Dr Sohail Saleem, the injury requires another review after two weeks, effectively ending any hopes of Imad making it in time for the series.

Consequently, Bilal Asif will stay on as part of the T20I outfit in the injured player’s absence as per the selection committee’s initial squad announcement.
