ISLAMABAD:
Disappointed by the apathy of the government, the teaching and non-teaching staff working on daily wages at the federal and model educational institutes on Monday assembled outside National Press Club to register their protest against non-payment of salaries, again.
“The government has never been serious and even the previous one swept the issue under the rug,” Rabia Waheed from Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG) F-11/2 said.
Around 300 protesters, including teachers, gardeners, electricians, were holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands like “stop constructing metros and bridges and pay salary to builders of nation” were chanting slogans against Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) officials for not paying their salaries and using delaying tactics in regularising their services.
Last week, State Minister Usman Ibrahim who is in-charge of the division had formed a working group headed by Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Director General to resolve the issue.
Ibrahim has also been blaming bureaucracy for the delay, saying “People in the attached departments often create obstacles.”
According to FDE, there are 422 educational institutes in the capital that employ over 1,800 daily wagers.
The issue of non-payment has been lingering on for the past eight months.
