Pre-emptive: Section 144 imposed in Jhelum

The administration has banned gathering of more than five persons within 300 metres of the polling stations

Jhelum district administration has imposed Section 144 in the district ahead of the local government elections, scheduled for November 19, to maintain law and order. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman issued the directions in this regard on Monday. The administration has banned gathering of more than five persons within 300 metres of the polling stations, except voters on the polling day. Display of licensed or unlicensed arms has also been prohibited. The police has directed the candidates to deposit their licensed arms with the local police stations. Meanwhile, the administration has also announced a public holiday in the district on the polling day.


Elections will be held in 44 union councils and five and municipal committees in the four tehsils. PTI and PML-N have fielded the most candidates. A large number of independent candidates are also in the fray.
