Power generation: Two plants ready in Punjab

SIALKOT: Two thermal power plants have been constructed in Nandipur-Gujranwala and Narowal with an individual capacity of 425 megawatts and 225 megawatts respectively and both will become operational by the end of January, said Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) Chief Executive Gujranwala Region Muhammad Ibrahim Majoka.

Speaking to the media, he said that Gepco will also get an additional 135 megawatts through two under-construction rental power plants in Sialkot.

“Around 2.25 million consumers of the region demand 1,100 megawatts of electricity during this season while only 800 megawatts were available to Gepco and because of the 300-megawatt shortage outages were being carried out,” explained Majoka.

Majoka informed that additional power available to the utility would be helpful in minimising the duration of outages in the region besides ensuring uninterrupted supply to industries in Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat districts.
