KARACHI: Surgical intensive care units (ICU) of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital have been closed for several days as the electricity cables have developed a fault.

A few days ago, the electricity cables broke down and suspended power supply to the wards. The hospital administration made temporary arrangements but surgical operations cannot take place until the cables were fixed properly.

On the other hand, City District Government Karachi’s (CDGK) health department officials have yet to arrange for new cables as they are expensive and the department is already facing a budget crisis.

On Monday, Karachi DCO Muhammad Hussein Syed directed CDGK works and services department EDO Engineer A Rasheed Mughal to install the new cable by Tuesday. Mughal said that the cable has been purchased and will be replaces in a day or two.

CDGK health group of offices EDO Dr Nasir Jawaid Sheikh told The Express Tribune that the installation will be carried out today (Wednesday).
