The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a campaign to discourage and remove illegal water connections. Under the campaign, more than 100 illegal connections have been disconnected from the main water supply line and several people have been fined.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal was informed during a recent meeting that sufficient quantity of water was available in reservoirs. However, water shortage complaints were received due to electricity faults, which were rectified at the earliest.
He was apprised that 250 to 300 water complaints were being met on daily basis and the tanker service were well equipped to redress 100 per cent complaints.
Special measures are being taken to ensure provision of clean and safe drinking water, the chairman was briefed. He was also informed that before supplying, it was being treated scientifically at reservoirs or source points.
The meeting was briefed that Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources and other organisations frequently conduct water quality tests in the city and sufficient quantity of water treating chemicals was in stock. However, even then if water contamination is reported, the supply is immediately disconnected till rectification, as per standard operating procedures, it was told.
CDA chairman directed the relevant departments to ensure a smooth supply of water in all areas of the city and take strict action against illegal connections.
