Iqbal Day: Federal govt’s reply sought on abolition of holiday

Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan of Lahore High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the federal government on a petition against abolition of a public holiday on Iqbal Day and fixed a date for preliminary hearing. The judge sought a reply from the federal government in three weeks. The notice was issued on the petition of Farhad Ali Shah, a citizen, who told the court that the Ministry of Interior had abolished the holiday. He said that the ministry had not given any reason for the decision. He asked the court to declare the notification illegal and unconstitutional and restore the holiday.
