Mangoes arrive early in market

KARACHI:
Mangoes from the new crop have arrived 10 days earlier in the market due to water shortage and intense heat around the country.

The federal government has also granted approval for export of mangoes five days before schedule. Mangoes were picked from the fields of Rahim Yar Khan and upper areas of Sindh 10 days before schedule. Owing to this, the government on the request of exporters has allowed export of mangoes from May 15 instead of May 20. Mangoes of Sindh have reached the market and will be available in Karachi next week.

The chairman of All Pakistan Fruits and Vegetables Exporters and Importers Merchant Association, Waheed Ahmed, told The Express Tribune that global warming has affected the crops in Pakistan. He said that first shipment will be sent to the Middle East, adding that the export target is 150,000 tons this season.
